Gateshead Council’s Civic Centre headquarters was designed around four, 3-story pavilions and built in 1987. It currently houses over 2000 employees. The Council’s services are delivered through five groups - Community Based Services, Development and Enterprise, Learning and Children, Local Environmental Services and Central Services.

The latest refurbishment was led by its own architectural services department and completed in 2012. It included the provision of new furniture for over 1500 employees, and a new 400 seat public restaurant. Albany Contract Furniture was selected as the leading local supplier of contract furniture to provide space planning, design, supply and installation of all furniture, both modular and fitted.
